From one tour to something bigger

I started Free Walking Tour Salzburg as a licensed guide with a homemade sign and a passion for storytelling.

Since then, we’ve grown into a platform that helps travelers experience Salzburg with depth and honesty — not just see it.

From a part-time job to a mission.

HOW IT BEGAN

Before there was a blog, a directory, or a tour, there was just a guy on a rikscha and a city worth sharing.

In 2012, I got a part-time job as a rikscha driver in Salzburg. It was the first job I loved.

I didn’t know it at the time, but that summer, riding through the old town, talking to strangers, would change the course of my life.

Over the next ten years, I worked in hostels, cleaned beds, poured beers, and swapped stories with travelers from all over the world. I wasn’t building a career. I was building a connection to Salzburg, and to the people passing through it.

In 2018, I started Free Walking Tour Salzburg. No money. No office. Just an amateur website, a license I worked two years for, and a belief that I had something worth sharing.

That belief became a team. The team became a platform. And eventually, the platform brought me full circle back to the rikscha company I once worked for, which I now run.

Along the way, I reconnected with the people I met during those hostel years. Some became collaborators. Together, we built Introducing Salzburg.

We’re not a tourist office. We’re a crew of guides, writers, and locals who know these streets of Salzburg inside out — and still think they’re magical.

We’re here to show you Salzburg as we know it. What’s worth your time. What to skip. Where to go deeper.
