Account Deletion

How to delete your Introducing Salzburg account and everything attached to it, from inside the app or by email if you have already uninstalled it.

1. Who this is for

This page covers the Introducing Salzburg mobile app, published by Free Walking Tour Salzburg e.U., Ignaz-Härtl-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg, Austria.

The app works without an account. If you never signed in, there is nothing to delete on our side: your saved places and trip plans only ever existed on your phone, and uninstalling the app removes them. This page is for people who signed in with their email address.

2. Deleting your account inside the app

Open the app, go to the Account tab, tap Delete account, then retype your email address to confirm. We ask you to retype it so that nobody can wipe your account by picking up your unlocked phone.

The erasure runs immediately. It runs as a single database transaction, which means it either completes in full or does not happen at all. There is no half-deleted state.

3. Deleting your account if you have already uninstalled the app

Email [email protected] from the address you signed in with, and ask us to delete your account. Put “delete my account” in the subject line so it is not missed.

We will reply to that address to confirm it is really you, and then run exactly the same erasure described below. We handle these by hand, normally within a few days and always within the one month that the GDPR allows. If we cannot match your address to an account, we will tell you that instead.

4. What is deleted immediately

The moment the deletion runs, the following are permanently removed from our database:

  • Your sessions. Every device you were signed in on is signed out at once.
  • Your sign-in tokens. Any outstanding magic links stop working.
  • Your device tokens. Your phone is unregistered for push notifications, so no reminder can be sent to it afterwards.
  • Your saved places and trip plans, including their titles, contents and any notes you wrote. This is a real delete, not a hidden flag, and it includes items you had already deleted inside the app. Those are normally kept as tombstones so the sync between your devices works, and account deletion clears them out too.
  • Support messages you sent while signed in, including the message text and the email address, IP address and browser user-agent recorded with them.

5. What we keep, and why

One thing survives, and we would rather name it than let you find out later.

We keep an operational log of which in-app contact buttons were tapped: the action type, the label, the target, the city and the entity. It contains nothing you wrote. We use it to see which support paths people actually use and to investigate abuse. When you delete your account, the account reference on those rows is set to empty, so what is left is a record that a button was tapped, with no link back to you.

6. The 30-day window

Your account record itself is not destroyed on the spot. It is marked as deleted, with the date, and held for 30 days. That timestamp is the record that the erasure happened, which is what data-protection law expects us to be able to show.

Two things follow from that window:

  • You can come back. If you request a sign-in link with the same email address within those 30 days, the account is restored rather than a new one created. Both email opt-ins come back switched off, because asking to be erased withdraws that consent. Nothing from section 4 comes back: those records are already gone for good.
  • After 30 days it is over. A job runs every night and permanently erases every account that passed the 30-day mark, sweeping the child tables one more time on the way out. At that point your email address is gone from our systems, and signing in again starts you from scratch as a new user.

7. Data on your phone

Deleting your account clears our side. The copies on your phone, meaning the cached Salzburg content, your local saved places, your recent searches and your app settings, are removed when you uninstall the app. If you delete your account but keep the app installed, sign out and the local account data goes with it.

8. Getting a copy before you delete

Deletion cannot be undone, so if you want your data first, take the export before you delete: Account tab, Export my data, retype your email to confirm. You get a JSON file with your email address, your sign-up date, your email preferences, your sessions, your saved places and trip plans in full, your support messages and your registered push tokens.

9. Questions

Write to [email protected]. What we collect in the first place, and who processes it, is in our Privacy Policy, sections 12 to 19.
