Court architect to the Bavarian Electors and one of the dominant baroque architects of the German-speaking world. Enrico Zuccalli came from the same extraordinary Graubunden tradition as his relative Giovanni Gaspare Zuccalli, who designed the Kajetanerkirche in Salzburg.
While Giovanni Gaspare worked in Salzburg, Enrico shaped the Bavarian side: extensions to Nymphenburg Palace, the Theatinerkirche towers, and Schleissheim Palace. As court architect to the Wittelsbach dynasty, Salzburg's powerful neighbours and frequent political counterparts, Enrico operated in the same architectural and patronage world that shaped the archbishops' building ambitions across the border. The two Zuccallis represent the same cultural tradition working both sides of the Salzburg-Bavaria divide.
