The Story

The building at Linzer Bundesstraße 6 has roots stretching back to the late 18th or early 19th century, when Gnigl was still a farming village on Salzburg’s edge. The exact construction date is unclear, with booking platforms citing “over 200 years” without a specific year or named architect. Whatever its origins, the structure was eventually converted and absorbed into the Best Western Plus network, receiving the brand’s characteristic mid-scale upgrade: flat-screen TVs, sound-proof windows, climate control, and a contemporary lobby aesthetic of black steel and polished concrete.

What sets this property slightly apart from a generic chain offering is the corridor art. Günther Edlinger, a Salzburg pop artist, has work throughout the public spaces, rotating pieces that give the building a gallery dimension alongside the standard hotel function. The lobby’s red-and-black design language is consistent and deliberately styled, more than the average Best Western fitout.
