Clemens-Holzmeister-Stiege

A staircase climbing the Mönchsberg cliff behind the Salzburg festival houses, named in 1983 for Clemens Holzmeister (1886-1983), the architect who built them: he created the smaller festival theatre in the 1920s and designed the Grosses Festspielhaus between 1956 and 1960. Free, entered from the Toscaninihof off Hofstallgasse. More than a dedication, it is also one of the real pedestrian routes up onto the Mönchsberg from the old town, so it works as both a piece of festival history and a shortcut to the cliff-top paths.
