The Story

Pension Junger Fuchs occupies a quiet place in Salzburg’s accommodation landscape: small, family-run, affordable, and on one of the more characterful streets of the right bank. Linzer Gasse runs north from the Salzach bridges through the Neustadt, lined with bakeries, cafes, and pharmacies that serve locals as much as tourists. Number 54 is toward the quieter northern end.

A short detour from the pension leads to Steingasse, the narrow medieval lane that runs behind and parallel to the riverfront. One of the best-preserved pre-Baroque streetscapes in Salzburg, it gives a sense of the city before the grand 17th-century rebuilding.

The name, “Junger Fuchs” (Young Fox), has the slightly eccentric quality of older Austrian family establishments. Simple rooms, no particular frills, and the pricing logic of a property run by the family rather than a chain.
