The Story

A hidden gorge carved by the Taugl river through the limestone of the Tennengau, roughly 20 kilometres south of Salzburg between Kuchl and St. Koloman. Barely known to international visitors but beloved by Salzburg locals who use its crystal-clear emerald pools for wild swimming in summer: the kind of place residents keep quiet about precisely because it is so unspoiled. The gorge walk follows the river through narrow passages, under overhanging cliffs, and past natural rock formations. Water temperature is cold even in August. A genuine local secret.

Visiting

Free, open year-round in fair weather. No formal infrastructure; no admission charge. Access from the Tauglgries area between Kuchl and Bad Vigaun. Best in spring through autumn. Approximately 20 km south of Salzburg, reachable by car.
