On the top floor of Salzburg's city baths, an open-air pool sits level with the rooftops of the old town, so swimmers face the fortress and the Mirabell gardens from the water. The Paracelsus Bad is the contemporary swimming and spa building on Auerspergstraße, next to the Kurgarten (the spa garden by Mirabell).

The University of Salzburg lifted an entire faculty onto stilts so the public could keep walking underneath it. Opened in 2011, the Unipark Nonntal houses the cultural and social sciences departments, the language, education, and arts institutes, at the southern edge of the old town.
