Lehen is a residential district in the north of the city, on the left bank of the Salzach River. With almost 15,000 residents it is the most populous district of Salzburg. It is not a sightseeing destination.

The Story

The district is roughly a triangle: the railway line towards Rosenheim along its southern edge, the Glanbach and the Glan canal to the northwest, and the Salzach to the east. Mülln and Maxglan lie to the south, Liefering to the north and west.

Its parish church is St. Vinzenz Pallotti, a concrete church with a tent roof and a free-standing bell tower, built between 1962 and 1964. The name may come from the Middle High German lēhen, a fief, or from Lohe, a damp wood.

Planning

Lehen has no attractions that need a dedicated visit. The nearest sights are in Mülln just to the south, where the climb up the Mönchsberg begins.
