Hermann Helmer

6 July 1849, Harburg, Germany - 13 April 1919, Vienna

The engineering half of the Fellner & Helmer partnership. While Ferdinand Fellner handled the ceremonial and decorative architecture, Hermann Helmer brought structural engineering rigour to the auditoria, handling acoustic design and technical stage requirements.

Their Salzburger Landestheater (1892) gave Salzburg its principal non-Festival performing arts venue, a building that has served the city’s cultural life continuously for over 130 years.
