The Story

A side valley branching west from the Salzach near Golling an der Salzach, ending in the turquoise Bluntausee: a small natural lake fed by the Bluntau stream in a setting of dramatic limestone cliff faces and dense forest. The Bluntausee is shallow, clear, and swimmable in summer. The surrounding mountains reflect directly in the water. One of the most visually complete natural landscapes within easy day-trip range of Salzburg, yet without the crowds that gather at more famous sites. 35 kilometres from the city.

Visiting

The walk from the valley entrance to the lake takes 30 to 40 minutes on a flat, well-maintained path. No technical difficulty. No admission charge. Limited parking at the trailhead, roughly 2 km from Golling town centre. Golling is reachable from Salzburg in about 30 minutes by car or by train. Pairs well with Gollinger Wasserfall and Burg Golling for a full half-day in the Tennengau.
