The Story

The Cool Mama Hotel sits at the edge of the city near the Messezentrum, far from the Altstadt and deliberately so. Its 15-storey glass-and-steel tower is designed to be visible from the A1, a motorway landmark that doubles as a hotel’s most effective advertisement. The charcoal-coloured cube at ground level marks the entrance and grounds the tower in its surroundings, creating a contrast between the dark base and the reflective glass above.

The hotel’s 113 rooms are all labelled allergy-friendly, fitted with real wood parquet flooring, non-feather bedding, and a ventilation system that reportedly cycles through a full air exchange every 15 minutes. The dark-brown wall palette and wood grain create an interior that feels more considered than the typical business hotel. Rooms come with Nespresso machines, 55-inch TVs with Sky packages, walk-in showers, and minibar, putting the amenity level comfortably above what the building’s exterior might suggest.

The sky restaurant and bar on the upper floors is the hotel’s main social asset. The views from the top cover Hohensalzburg Fortress, the Untersberg, and the city’s low skyline, a perspective that is genuinely unusual for a hotel at this price point. The rooftop draws guests and non-guests, giving the hotel a local presence beyond accommodation.

The location near the Messezentrum suits fair and conference visitors, but the hotel also works as a base for city exploration, with bus connections into the centre.
