Gallery
Galerie Welz is one of Austria’s oldest surviving commercial art galleries. Friedrich Welz inherited his family’s picture-framing shop on Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse and, in the mid-1930s, turned it into a gallery, hanging Klimt, Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka when those names still carried risk. It works as a dealer in classical modernism and contemporary art today, inside the Baroque Palais Kuenburg. Free to browse, a working gallery rather than a museum. The lane runs from Getreidegasse down to the Rupertinum.
