The Story

One of the more genuinely unusual places to sleep in Salzburg is also one of the most central. The Priesterseminar on Dreifaltigkeitsgasse is a major work of Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, the architect who shaped the Baroque cityscape of Salzburg more than any other. The building has served as the diocesan seminary since its inauguration in 1699 and continues to do so; the guesthouse operates alongside that primary function.

The rooms are modest by conventional hotel standards: simple, clean, and without the amenities of a tourist property. But the building itself is remarkable, and the location is as central as Salzburg gets. Guests who value authenticity of setting over comfort of fitout, pilgrims on Salzburg itineraries, scholars with connections to the cathedral or university, will find something here that no design hotel can replicate.
