The Story

The Hotel Adlerhof has been on Elisabethstraße since around 1900, when the street was part of the main approach corridor into the city for rail travellers. The four-storey facade, with its vertical stone lintels and symmetrical window rhythm, was built to be noticed by arriving passengers, and it still carries that straightforward civic presence today.

The ground floor reportedly holds the original cafe interior: wood panelling, Art Deco lighting, and a sense of accumulated time that surviving Victorian commercial interiors tend to carry. Breakfast is served here, which makes it one of the few mid-range hotels in Salzburg where the morning meal happens inside something that feels genuinely old rather than recently designed to look so.

The rooms are a mix. Some reportedly feature hand-painted canopy beds and Austrian folk furniture, echoing a more traditional alpine decorative tradition; others are straightforward modern rooms updated over the years. The hotel has about 30 rooms in total, with the exact count depending on how configurations are reported across booking platforms. A recent round of renovations added an elevator, sound-proof double glazing, and updated bathrooms while leaving the original marble floors and wrought-iron balustrades intact.

The Elisabeth-Vorstadt location is practical for train users and those who prefer the calmer streets south of the station to the busier Neustadt. Bus connections to the Altstadt are straightforward and quick.
