The ibis Budget on Josef-Lindner-Straße is 300 m from the Salzburg Airport terminal. It exists for one reason: to give travelers arriving late or departing early a clean, affordable room without making them take a bus into the city. It does this reliably.

The Story

The property opened around 2002 as an Etap Hotel, part of Accor’s ultra-budget tier positioned at airports and motorway junctions across Europe. It sits in Wals-Siezenheim, a municipality just outside Salzburg city, directly off the A1 motorway exit and within walking distance of the terminal. The Etap brand retired around 2012-13 and the hotel became ibis Budget, which is the current brand.

A 2008 renovation added air-conditioning and acoustic-rated soundproofing to the 60 rooms, addressing the two main complaints at any airport-adjacent hotel: temperature control and noise. The double-glazed windows reportedly block up to 45 dB of external sound, covering both the A1 motorway hum and occasional aircraft. Self-check-in kiosks were installed at the same time, reducing front-desk queues during peak arrival hours.

Free parking, free Wi-Fi, and rooms often priced under €50 complete the proposition. The hotel does not claim cultural relevance; guests who want to spend time in the Altstadt are better served by a property in the Neustadt or on Linzer Gasse. For an early flight or a transit night, this is the most logical option near the airport.
