Krone 1512 takes its name from the year the building on Linzer Gasse is first documented. One of the older structures on the right bank’s main historic street, it operates today as a 25-room boutique hotel that balances medieval fabric with a considered modern interior.

The Story

Linzer Gasse is the main artery of the Neustadt, the right-bank neighbourhood that most visitors pass through on their way to the Mirabell gardens or the Sebastian church. The street has its own historical weight, lined with buildings from various centuries, and Krone 1512 is among the oldest surviving addresses on it.

The 1512 date refers to the first documented record of the house. The building survived the architectural upheavals of subsequent centuries mostly intact, and the current renovation philosophy holds to that: original stone lintels, exposed arches, and timber elements are preserved rather than hidden, while the rooms themselves use white plaster, large beds, and a minimalist approach that does not compete with the historic fabric. The effect is a hotel that feels old without performing antiquity.

The courtyard garden is a genuine asset. Salzburg’s Altstadt is dense and shadowed; private outdoor space is unusual. Sitting in the Krone 1512 courtyard, especially in the morning, is one of the quieter experiences available to visitors staying in the city centre. The hotel also provides a free public transport mobility ticket, which matters practically: Linzer Gasse is central but not inside the Altstadt pedestrian zone, and the bus connections are fast.
