Restaurant
Ludwig Burger Salzburg
Snapshot
Ludwig on Linzer Gasse is a locally run burger restaurant that opened in 2016. The beef is organic, the buns are from a local baker, and the whole operation occupies the kind of gap in Salzburg’s food scene that visitors who want something good and unfussy are often looking for.
The Story
Linzer Gasse is the right bank’s main street, a mix of boutiques, pharmacies, cafés, and hotels stretching north from the Staatsbrücke. Ludwig sits at number 39, in a space that once belonged to the Bruderhof courtyard.
The restaurant opened in 2016 with a short, well-considered menu built around organic beef from Biometzgerei Juffinger, a Tyrolean farm operating to BIO Austria standards. Grass-fed, no hormones, traceable from farm to plate. The buns are sourced from a local baker and arrive brioche-style, slightly sweet and properly structured for the job. The vegan beet-root burger and mushroom stack are there for those who want them, and gluten-free options are available on request.
The space is straightforward: 90 indoor seats, 40 outdoor when the weather allows, wooden tables, no attempt at baroque decoration. It fits its street without performing anything. The kitchen serves from 11:00 most days (Monday evening only), and the house lemonades at EUR 3.50 are made in-house. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables.
For visitors navigating Salzburg’s dining options, Ludwig answers a specific question: where do you eat well, quickly, without spending EUR 30 per head or sitting through a formal Austrian restaurant meal? The answer is on Linzer Gasse, and it has been since 2016.
