Austria’s first Sheraton Grand sits a four-minute walk from Mirabell Gardens, where upper-floor terraces frame the Salzburg skyline and the Congress Center sits next door. It is the city’s principal five-star address for travellers who want a global loyalty programme attached to a genuine Salzburg location.

The Story

The building went up in 1984 on what the city’s planning office called an “unusually fast” eleven-month schedule, the architects Hans Waltl and Wilhelm Holleis holding to a Wilhelminian facade because the municipality demanded it. The site on Auerspergstraße placed the hotel within two minutes of the Mirabell Gardens and alongside the Congress Center, a combination that made it the natural home for international conference delegations and for Festival visitors who wanted proximity to the Neustadt without staying in the Altstadt.

The hotel carried the Sheraton name for three decades before a roughly EUR 10 million renovation elevated it to Austria’s first Sheraton Grand designation in 2016. The refurbishment introduced 29 rooms on a redesigned upper floor, six Sky Suites with city and garden terrace views, oiled oak underfoot, and bespoke furniture carved in Tyrol. The ETAGE7 Lounge on the seventh floor, reserved for suite guests and top-tier Marriott Bonvoy members, delivers panoramic views of the gardens and the fortress beyond.

Restaurant Mirabell operates a show kitchen and an Austrian seasonal menu facing the gardens, while the Piano Bar, seating fifty inside and fifteen on the terrace, hosts live music on Friday evenings. The room range runs from a 30 sqm Standard with garden or city views up to a 140 sqm Penthouse with private sauna and whirlpool. Throughout, the design mixes clean contemporary lines with baroque colour references, a deliberate dialogue with the 17th-century city outside the window.

Visiting

Auerspergstraße 4, a short walk from Mirabell Gardens and eight minutes on foot to the Altstadt. The Congress Center is directly adjacent. Mozart’s Birthplace is about nine minutes away. Underground parking is available on site. Marriott Bonvoy members should confirm lounge access for their status tier at booking. Sky Suites and the Penthouse offer the best views. The hotel is generally less expensive than the Schwarzstraße luxury hotels and represents good value for the Sheraton Grand tier.
