Part of the first wave of Italian-Swiss craftsmen who turned Salzburg baroque. Hans Waldburger came from the Graubunden canton in Switzerland during Wolf Dietrich’s transformative building programme and contributed to the sculptural decoration of the Salzburg Cathedral site and other early baroque projects.
He settled permanently in Salzburg, one of the many foreign artists who arrived on commissions and never left, becoming part of the city’s creative fabric. His work places him at the very beginning of the baroque identity that defines Salzburg today.

The first baroque cathedral built in the German-speaking world, and the dominant church at the heart of Salzburg's Altstadt. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptised here on 28 January 1756. The site has held a cathedral since 774, when Saint Virgil of Salzburg consecrated the first one.
