The architect who designed the Mozarteum main building on Schwarzstrasse (completed 1914), the physical centre of Salzburg's concert life and music education for over a century. The building anchors the cultural cluster of the Neustadt alongside the Landestheater and the Marionettentheater.
The Mozarteum has been the stage from which Mozartwoche and countless international performances have been given. Berndl worked in a late historicist idiom suited to the building's prestige function, producing a structure that remains quietly essential to Salzburg's identity as a music city.
