Parkhotel Brunauer

Snapshot

A four-star hotel and conference centre set in a 3,500 m2 park garden in Salzburg’s Neustadt, five minutes from the main station and walking distance from Mirabell Gardens. The restaurant “josef,” named after the original founder, opened in 2020 and focuses on regional Austrian cooking. Popular for events and groups, with a character the chain hotels nearby do not have.

The Story

Parkhotel Brunauer occupies an unusual position in Salzburg’s hotel landscape. It is a conference hotel with a park garden, which sounds like a contradiction until you see the 3,500 m2 of grounds at Elisabethstraße 45a. The garden is the hotel’s real asset: a quiet, leafy space in a city where outdoor room is scarce, five minutes on foot from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof and walking distance from Mirabell Gardens and the northern edge of the historic core.

The restaurant named “josef” opened in 2020, named after Josef Brunauer, the hotel’s original founder. It operates as a separate entity in its own right, running a menu of honest Austrian cooking with ingredients sourced within 30 kilometres; the kitchen closes at 21:00 and the room stays open until late. The breakfast buffet earns consistently strong guest reviews. This is a hotel where the dining is worth factoring into the choice of accommodation, which is not always the case in the mid-range category.

The 69-71 rooms span a sensible range: singles, doubles, superior rooms, and suites, most with private balconies that face the garden. The conference side of the business means the on-site facilities are well-maintained: meeting rooms, a 24-hour front desk, fitness and sauna access, and bike rentals. Around 100 parking spaces on-site make this one of the more car-friendly options in Salzburg at this price level.
