The Story

The largest lake lying entirely within Salzburg State, set in the flat agricultural Flachgau north of the city. Less dramatic than the Salzkammergut lakes but very popular with Salzburg locals for swimming, sailing, windsurfing, and cycling the flat shoreline paths. The Wallersee area, taking in Seekirchen, Neumarkt, Seeham, and Obertrum, has a relaxed, everyday character far from the tourist circuits, offering a genuine experience of how Salzburgers spend their leisure time.

Visiting

Freely accessible year-round. Public Strandbad in Seekirchen and Neumarkt (small summer fee). Sailing, windsurfing, and boat rental available in season. Flat cycling paths along the shore. Approximately 20 km north of Salzburg, around 20 minutes by car.
