The Institut Sankt Sebastian is something else entirely. The institution itself is a religious house on the right bank, its guesthouse occupying part of the building complex that sits wall-to-wall with Sebastiansfriedhof.

The Sebastiansfriedhof is one of the most significant historic cemeteries in Salzburg, built in 1600 on the orders of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau, whose ornate mausoleum stands at its centre. The Renaissance arcades that line its walls contain graves of notable Salzburg families. Among them are Leopold Mozart, Wolfgang’s father, who died in 1787, and Constanze Mozart, Wolfgang’s widow, who survived her husband by fifty years and is buried there alongside her second husband.

Staying here places visitors in direct proximity to that layer of Salzburg history, a layer that receives less formal tourist attention than the Geburtshaus or the Residenz, but carries more personal resonance for visitors tracing the Mozart family story.
