Leonardo Hotel Salzburg City Center

Snapshot

Formerly the Star Inn Salzburg Zentrum, now operating as Leonardo Hotel Salzburg City Center at Hildmannplatz 5, at the western edge of the Altstadt. Approximately 300 metres from the Festival Halls and just before the Neutor tunnel. The most logistically placed mid-range hotel for Festival visitors, with 86 rooms and a rare advantage of private covered parking.

The Story

Position is the argument for Leonardo Hotel Salzburg City Center. The address is Hildmannplatz 5, which sits at the point where the western Altstadt meets the Neutor tunnel cut through Monchsberg. From here, the Festival Halls are roughly 300 metres away. The historic core is immediately accessible on foot. For anyone attending the Salzburg Festival, this is about as close as mid-range accommodation gets.

The hotel operated for years as the Star Inn Salzburg Zentrum before the Fattal-owned Leonardo Hotels group rebranded it. The transition brought the property into a wider European chain while retaining its physical advantages. The 86 rooms are modern and functional, with LCD televisions, individual air conditioning, and the standard amenities expected of a renovated city-centre hotel. The lounge bar handles pre-dinner drinks and morning coffee without fuss.

The private parking is a genuine practical asset. With around 61 covered spaces on-site, the Leonardo solves a problem that most Salzburg hotels cannot: the city’s historic core has almost no convenient parking, and visitors arriving by car often spend considerable time and money dealing with it. The hotel’s position just outside the old town gives it access to the Altstadt on foot while still having space for a parking structure.

Festival season pushes rates up sharply, as it does across the city, but the proximity to the performance venues means the premium is arguably justified for festival-goers. The rest of the year, it operates as a reliable mid-range property in a genuinely excellent location.
