Restaurant
S'Herzl
Snapshot
S’Herzl is the restaurant of the Hotel Goldener Hirsch at Getreidegasse 37. Michelin-noted, intimate, and pitched at a level considerably above the general trade of the street outside. The kind of place that has been hosting serious dinners in the Altstadt for a long time.
The Story
The Hotel Goldener Hirsch is one of Salzburg’s oldest and most storied hotels, with a Festival clientele going back decades. S’Herzl is its restaurant: a name that translates roughly as “little heart,” which tells you something about the register the place aims for. Not grand in a formal European sense, but serious, intimate, and well-furnished with history.
The cooking is rooted in regional Austrian produce: dishes that draw on the Salzkammergut, the mountains, and the traditions of Austrian domestic cuisine, interpreted with the precision of a kitchen that is answering to Michelin rather than to a tourist menu. Mains run around EUR 25-45.
The Getreidegasse address means the restaurant is technically on Salzburg’s most-visited tourist street. In practice it operates in a different register entirely, serving a mix of Festival visitors, hotel guests, and Salzburg residents who want a serious dinner without the price or ceremony of the city’s most formal rooms.
