The Story

Water has shaped Salzburg in ways that go far deeper than scenery. The Salzach River defines the city’s plan; the Alm Canal runs through the Altstadt; the trick fountains at Hellbrunn Palace were built as architectural theatre; and the salt trade that gave the city its name and its wealth traveled by water.

The WasserSpiegel makes this relationship legible through interactive exhibits covering the science, cultural history, and regional significance of water. It is a niche attraction rather than a marquee museum, but for families or visitors interested in how landscape shaped this place, it delivers well above its modest footprint.
