The man whose name Salzburg's most famous cafe still carries. When Carl Tomaselli took over the cafe on Alter Markt in the mid-18th century, it became Cafe Tomaselli, the oldest cafe in Salzburg. Mozart was a customer. The cafe remains in the same location today, a direct living link to 18th-century Salzburg.

The indispensable local figure behind the founding of the Salzburg Festival. While Hofmannsthal, Reinhardt, and Strauss provided the cultural programme, it was Gehmacher who organised the local politics, secured the venues, and ensured that Salzburg was the city chosen. He died in 1927, just seven years after the Festival he helped create.

The Salzburg confectioner who invented the Mozart Kugel in 1890. The original hand-made version, still produced by Konditorei Furst on Alter Markt, is distinct from the mass-produced variants. Arguably the most successful culinary product ever associated with Salzburg.

Austrian gallerist who opened his Salzburg gallery in 1983, two years after a first space in Lienz, making the city the base for one of the most influential contemporary art dealerships in the world. His Salzburg gallery on Mirabellplatz shows Baselitz, Kiefer, Rauschenberg, and Warhol. Later expanded to Paris and London.
