Hotel am Mirabellplatz sits at the edge of the baroque Mirabell Gardens, one of Salzburg’s most visited open spaces. For guests who want to step out of their hotel and into one of the city’s great gardens before breakfast, this is the closest option in the Neustadt.

The Story

The Mirabell Gardens were laid out in their current baroque form in the 18th century, and Mirabellplatz became the civic anchor of the Neustadt on the right bank of the Salzach River. The hotel takes its name from the square rather than the garden itself, but the two are effectively the same address: the garden’s boundaries begin immediately adjacent.

Operated by the Imlauer group, a regional Austrian hotel brand, the property offers a level of personal service that falls between the full boutique approach of the Altstadt’s smaller hotels and the anonymity of international chains. The rooms vary in character and price; those facing the garden are the clear choice, though naturally priced accordingly.

The Neustadt location carries real advantages beyond the garden. Schwarzstraße, the elegant street leading south from Mirabellplatz toward the Altstadt bridge, has some of Salzburg’s better cafes and concert halls. The Staatsbrücke crossing to the Altstadt takes around five minutes on foot, which means the distance from the Altstadt’s main sights is not a disadvantage once you have made the walk once.

For the Salzburg Festival, most of the principal venues are on the Altstadt side, but the Mirabellplatz location places guests within comfortable walking distance of the Mozarteum and other concert facilities that sit in the Neustadt.
