Salzburg's most popular backpacker hostel, on Paracelsusstraße in the Neustadt. Known for nightly The Sound of Music screenings. Budget dorms and private rooms.
The Story
Salzburg has a complicated relationship with The Sound of Music. The city the film depicts is recognisably here, but locals tend toward indifference or mild embarrassment about the tourism the film generates. YoHo is the exception. The hostel leans into the film with enthusiasm: every night there is a screening, and the communal experience of watching it with a room full of international travellers who are in Salzburg partly because of it has become part of what YoHo offers.
The hostel is on Paracelsusstraße in the Neustadt, close enough to the Altstadt to be convenient and far enough from it to avoid premium pricing. The social atmosphere, the organised screenings, and the mix of dormitory and private room options make it the default choice for backpackers arriving in Salzburg without a fixed plan. The staff are used to orienting first-timers, and the hostel functions as a reliable launching point for day trips to Hallstatt, Berchtesgaden, and the regional lakes.
