The bridge between two golden ages. Guidobald von Thun's archiepiscopate (1654-1668) maintained Lodron's artistic momentum, continuing to commission works for Salzburg Cathedral and sustaining the court musical tradition that made the city one of the most musically distinguished capitals in Central Europe.
His careful stewardship set the conditions for the explosive building campaign his kinsman Johann Ernst von Thun would later unleash with Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Without the stability Guidobald provided, that partnership might never have had the institutional foundation it needed.
