Archbishop of Salzburg from 1668 to 1687. A Counter-Reformation hardliner who in 1684 ordered the expulsion of the Protestants of the Defereggen Valley, then part of Salzburg's territory in East Tyrol, one of the harsher archiepiscopal expulsions of its kind in the German-speaking world.
He commissioned the Kajetanerkirche (Church of St. Cajetan) in the Altstadt, built by the Theatine order. As a patron of music, he employed two of the finest composers of the era: Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber and Georg Muffat, both of whom produced some of their greatest works during his archiepiscopate.
